The starting point for my work for Istanbul is related to Islamic Iconography and Norwegian design under the working title of SELBU CARPET, thus referencing Turkish/Islamic designs and my own country's (Norway's) similar imagery in crafts. I find the repetitive designs both poetic and soothing, and at the same time there are some humorous renderings of live forms that challenge the above citation. I have in connection with this been struck by the force of a sitation by Al Bukhari in Hadith which states that "Those who will be most severely punished by Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the image-makers. They will be asked to give these images life"
