Kristyan has created work to place in a city she’s never visited but which has been described to her by those who have. The work is site specific to her idea of Kadıköy, a place described to her by images, stories and photographs. Kristyan’s ‘Kadıköy Posters’ use English and Turkish text collaged onto silk screen prints stained with pen ink as well as signs on corrugated cardboard placed casually in Moda.

These paper works refer to the handmade posters created by shopkeepers in the area and used to promote their goods. In ‘Letters’ she attempts to describe the problems of being lost in a foreign place and not speaking the language. There is miscommunication, misunderstanding and isolation.
